Getting into Town...

Hotel Britannia is situated some way up Via Capo, which is tha main route out of Sorrento towards Massa Lubrense and the Amalfi Coast. To reach the town centre, the easiest and often quickest way is to go on foot. Simply cross the road outside the hotel and walk down the hill. Whilst there is no footpath in the vicinity of the hotel itself, it is only a short distance before you reach a footpath and continue on down the hill whilst taking in the splendid  views of the Marina Grande below.

Once you reach the bottom of the hill continue walking straight ahead with the Hospital on your left and the Esso sign to your right, and eventually you will reach Tasso Square - considered by most to be the centre of all things Sorrento!

If you would rather take public transport, the bus stop is right outside the hotel. Buses here do not have numbers, and to make matters worse there are a multitude of different bus companies that operate the same or similar route. But all buses heading down hill end up in the town.

The colour of the buses can offer some indication to the companies that operate them, but that is not necessarily any guarantee. We aspired to use the E.A.V. buses that are generally red and white, but can also be orange. The fare on an E.A.V. bus is a fixed €1.20 for any trip within the confines of the town, and ordinarily tickets for this and other companies would be purchase in advance from any of the Tabacchi shops (tobacconists) that can be found around town. That being said, tickets can be purchased directly from the driver of E.A.V. buses and most tour reps and hoteliers will advise you of that fact. In our case, we hardly ever managed to get an E.A.V. bus, with the first bus we managed to board being a  Sita bus who's driver was equally willing to sell us a ticket on-board, albeit at the dearer fare of €1.50.

Once you have your ticket, slot it into the machine behind the driver (arrow towards you and pointing down) which will time stamp it. Don't be afraid to quiz the driver upon initial boarding - they all understand places such as 'Tasso Square', Station, or Marina Piccolo' , and will tell you yes or no.

If you're splashing the cash, a Taxi can be called by the Hotel and will set you back between 15 and 25 Euros for what would otherwise be a 20 minute walk.
